The exhibition Nice Guys – What is a nice guy anyway? is the degree project of Artist Linea Matei at Konstfack. It is the result of extensive research and statistics from The Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention, Statistics Sweden, the Swedish National Agency for Education, the Swedish Social Insurance Agency and the Institute for Evaluation of Labour Market and Education Policy.

WHAT DO YOU LOSE BY BEING A MAN // BEING RAISED TO BE A MAN?

In a survey, Linea Matei asked what you lose by being a man/ being raised to be a man. 229 men and non-binaries replied, and their answers, along with statistics and references to various studies, are depicted in textile and sound.

Some of the replies:

”I’m not expected to be in touch with my feelings”
”Nothing I can think of”
”Giving birth. Having girlfriends. Being at home with my child for a long time. Longevity…”
“Being physically close to other men in a non-sexual way (I am cis-straight)”.

The Museum of Women’s History wants to expand on this question and ask what do you lose when you are raised to be a specific gender? You can find other people’s stories and share your own in here.

The exhibition consists of a sculpture, a sound installation, paintings and a book featuring all the replies to the survey.
